Program Information

We offer Junior Varsity and Varsity Programs.

The coaching staff conducts a preseason parent/athlete meeting, the purpose of which is to provide information to the new players interested in joining the program and to advise the returning athletes of the expectations for the coming season. Athletes are encouraged to participate in summer and fall club lacrosse to hone their skills. Winter weightlifting and agility workouts commence in November and will end at the start of the season each February. Additionally, throughout the year, the team conducts events which are designed to promote team unity and a “family” atmosphere. Full team participation in all team-sponsored events is expected.

Prior to the beginning of the season, freshmen and athletes joining the program for the first time will receive information on the weight training and agility training schedules to help integrate them into the program. These athletes are encouraged to attend the summer camp conducted at Lake Catholic High School by Mallory Ferrandiz, Head Coach Women’s Lacrosse @ Lake Erie College.

The coaching staff will provide these athletes with individual instruction on the fundamentals necessary to excel at the game of lacrosse. Dates and times will be announced.

Each player is encouraged to attend as many of the off-season events as possible to improve her fundamentals and lacrosse skills.

Coach Victor A. Mezacapa III

Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach

Coach Mezacapa was hired at Lake Catholic as the Head Varsity Women’s Lacrosse Coach in January 2013 after a 15-year career coaching a myriad of boy’s and girls’ sports at various levels of competition. Coach Mezacapa is a 1977 graduate of Lake Catholic High School and welcomed the opportunity provided him to coach at his alma mater. His wife Cheryl O’Brien (1977), daughters Taylor (2010) and Tori (2012) are also graduates of Lake Catholic. Vic & Cheryl also have a son Victor IV.

In the 2017 season the team set school records in regular season wins (13) and total wins for a season (14). In his four seasons, the team has made the Elite Eight twice but has yet to achieve its goal of winning a state championship. Coach Mez believes “the goal every year is to be a state champion” and he will continue to work hard to help the team realize that lofty goal.
